To be certified as a B Corp to begin with, a business must meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The purpose of a benefit corporation is to create general public benefit, which is defined as a material positive impact on society and the environment. A company becomes certified by taking the B Impact Assessment and scoring 80 or above. Those who are in the top 10% of of B Corporations are honored by being named Best for the World.
